Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release is a gentle, effective technique for unlocking areas of chronic pain and tension.

This powerful treatment works on the fascia, the connective tissue which connects and runs through all the muscles in your body. During the treatment, I find tight or stuck areas, and then gently but precisely stretch the tissue to help your body release the tension it is holding.

Myofascial Release is a suitable treatment for:

  • Back and neck pain
  • Hip or sciatic pain
  • Leg and arm pain
  • Migraine
  • TMJ
  • Tension and restricted movement
  • Chronic stress-related issues

As with all hands-on therapies, you will get best results from a course of 3-6 treatments. At the end of your first appointment I can give you advice on how best to continue.

What to expect

Myofascial release is like a massage in that it’s a hands-on therapy that relaxes and rebalances the muscles and fascia (connective tissue) and calms the nervous system. It’s different in that no oil is used, so my hands move very slowly with your tissues rather than gliding over them. This makes it a subtle, very “listening” technique, which affects the body by staying intensely in tune with the tissues rather than by using intensely strong pressure. It also makes it a slow technique, so treatments are targeted towards painful or restricted areas rather than the whole body.

Myofascial Release treatments are not the same as self-myofascial release with a foam roller, which can feel quite intense. It is generally lovely and gentle to receive, and often leaves you feeling wonderfully relaxed and floating.

I received my Diploma in Practical Myofascial Release from Pain Care Clinic, and I am fully insured by Balens.
